The organization was founded in 1944 to give amateur musicians a place to play their instruments and to provide quality band music for the Oak Ridge community. The band currently gives four free summer concerts in A.K. Bissell Park and six indoor concerts as part of a subscription series which are presented in various venues including the Oak Ridge High School Performing Arts Center, the First Baptist Church, and Central Baptist Church.
The Community Band is a tax exempt, non-profit organization registered in the State of Tennessee and is a member of the Arts Council of Oak Ridge. Rehearsals are held every Thursday evening 7:30 - 9 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall of the First Baptist Church of Oak Ridge. Interested area musicians are welcome to join, and no auditions are required.

All of the summer concerts are held at A.K. Bissell Park, and there is no admission fee. Please note the outdoor concerts begin at 7 p.m. with the EXCEPTION of the July 4 Independence Day concert which begins at 7:30 p.m.

Oak Ridge Community Band/ Wind Ensemble Subscription Series Concerts |
For the Fall, Winter, Spring season the same group of musicians goes more formal as the Oak Ridge Wind Ensemble - presenting a series of concerts under a general theme for the concert season. These concerts are presented on Sunday afternoons at 3:30 p.m. either in the Oak Ridge High School Performing Arts Center, First Baptist Church, or at Central Baptist Church.
