The Oak Ridge Community Band/Oak Ridge Wind Ensemble

The organization was founded in 1944 to give amateur musicians a place to play their instruments and to provide quality band music for the Oak Ridge community. The band currently gives four free summer concerts in A.K. Bissell Park and six indoor concerts as part of a subscription series which are presented in various venues including the Oak Ridge High School Performing Arts Center and the First Baptist Church.

The Community Band is a tax exempt, non-profit organization registered in the State of Tennessee and is a member of the Arts Council of Oak Ridge. Rehearsals are held every Thursday evening 7:30 - 9 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall of the First Baptist Church of Oak Ridge. Interested area musicians are welcome to join, and no auditions are required.

Oak Ridge Community Band/ Wind Ensemble Subscription Series Concerts

For the Fall, Winter, Spring season the same group of musicians goes more formal as the Oak Ridge Wind Ensemble - presenting a series of concerts under a general theme for the concert season. These concerts are presented on Sunday afternoons at 3:30 p.m. either in the Oak Ridge High School Performing Arts Center or First Baptist Church. The ORHS Performing Arts Center is located at 1450 Oak Ridge Turnpike and First Baptist Church at 1101 Oak Ridge Turnpike.

The theme of this yearís subscription concert series, Prelude to a New Era, celebrates a new chapter as Composer/Conductor Shaun Salem takes up the baton to lead The Oak Ridge Wind Ensemble/The Oak Ridge Community Bandís (ORWE/ORCB) 80 musicians. Mr. Salem is a music educator with 8 years of teaching experience and over 23 years of experience as a music composer. As recently as 2014, Shaun was awarded Editorís Choice by JW Pepper, the largest music distributor in the country, and he was also honored in Bandworld Magazineís Top 100 New Works for Band. Under his leadership, The ORWE/ORCB will explore new works by some of the most popular living composers of band music while also bringing high-quality performances of traditional band repertoire to the concert stage. Mr. Salem is honored to bring excitement, energy, and enthusiasm to The ORWE/ORCB as the third conductor of this outstanding organization

Tickets are still $5 for adults over age 18 at the door of our subscription concerts, and season membership cards are available for $15 per person which gives admission to all 6 indoor concerts scheduled from October through April. Children and students through age 18 have free admission to our subscription concerts.

Better yet, become a Sponsor ($25), Patron, ($50), Benefactor ($100) or Special Benefactor ($150 or more) which will help the Community Band to better serve the community and perhaps gain a tax advantage for yourself.
